Alight Planning redefines best practices for how companies plan for the future.

August 2008 - December 2008

Alight Planning brought me in to re-imagine the product as an intuitive solution for broad audiences.

I redesigned the product from the ground up. The new UI/UX made sharing and consuming plans much simpler. The updates substantially extended configuration and security options as well. All in all, the new design facilitated tighter collaboration between senior and middle management with nuanced distribution of decision making and two-way communication.

Results

  • Innovative widget design that simplified complex, but critical workflows across the solution space.

  • Easy-to-understand, flexible access control administration to facilitate business objectives within tight security constraints. All without requiring a degree in symbolic logic to understand what a given user can view or do.

  • A consistent product experience throughout for all users.

  • Foundation of UX patterns that supported an internal desire for rebranding the product with modern visual design.

Conclusions

The team at Alight Planning was very excited about the final designs. We all anticipated improved adoption, reduced support effort, and broader audience appeal.

However, a shift in the company focus left the solution on the shelf awaiting development resources. Because the final results of the project were never released publicly, I’m unable to share the details of this design.
